Privacy Policy

Town Directory (towndirectory.ca) is a family-focused local guide to events, places, and newsletters in Ontario towns. This policy explains what information we collect when you use the site, how we use it, and the choices you have.

Browsing the site. Most of the directory and calendar is public. We do not require an account to read listings. Our hosting and analytics providers may receive technical data such as your IP address, browser type, pages visited, and approximate location derived from your IP.

Newsletter signup. If you subscribe, we collect the email address you provide and the town newsletter(s) you select. Signups are processed through our email platform (Beehiiv). Beehiiv may also collect standard subscription and delivery data under its own privacy policy.

Business contact form. If you submit a business inquiry, we collect your name, business name, email address, and any message you include. That information is sent to us by email so we can respond.

Feedback email. If you email admin@towndirectory.ca, we receive whatever you choose to send (typically your email address and message content).

We use information to:

• Operate and improve the website, directory, and event calendar
• Send newsletters you requested and manage your subscription preferences
• Respond to business inquiries and reader feedback
• Understand aggregate traffic patterns (for example, which pages are most useful)

We do not sell your personal information.

We use Google Analytics to measure site usage in aggregate. Analytics may set cookies or similar technologies in your browser. You can limit analytics through your browser settings, ad blockers, or Google's opt-out add-on.

Some directory pages load an interactive map from Google Maps when you open map view. Google may process data according to Google's Privacy Policy. Event and place listings often link to official venue websites; those sites have their own policies.

We rely on trusted providers to run the site, including:

• Cloudflare (hosting and site delivery)
• Beehiiv (newsletter subscriptions and sending)
• Resend (routing business inquiry emails)
• Google Analytics (usage statistics)
• Google Maps (optional map display in the directory)

These providers process data on our behalf only as needed to provide their services and under their own terms and privacy policies.

Newsletter subscriber data is kept while you remain subscribed. You can unsubscribe using the link in any newsletter. Business inquiry emails are kept only as long as needed to handle your request and for basic record-keeping. Analytics data is retained according to Google Analytics settings.

Town Directory is built for parents and caregivers planning family activities. The site is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

• Newsletter: use the unsubscribe link in any issue, or email us to update or remove your address.
• Analytics: adjust browser or device privacy settings to limit cookies and tracking.
• Access or correction: email us if you want to know what information we hold about you or want it corrected or deleted, subject to legal requirements.

We may update this page from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top will change when we do. Continued use of the site after changes means you accept the updated policy.
